W05: Site Design

I found this so far my favorite part of the class to date. I have done some research on how to use wordpress to design my site and watched some youtube videos. I had a lot of fun for the most part. I did run into a couple of problems while trying to design my website. I ran into what is called the White Screen of Death. It is literally what it sounds like. Your website is just a white screen. It took me quite a bit of time to fix it and I still have no clue what I did to get rid of it. Other than that I really enjoy designing my website so I spent some time playing around with it, probably too much. I think it will take some trial and error to get things the exact way I want it and to learn what works and what doesn’t. I am also trying to learn from the big businesses to learn what they did and copy some of the great ideas from them.

W04: Site Builder & Hosting

So this week I learned a lot. I learned that I did not know as much as I thought about starting a website. I found out that I do not understand half of the things that the hosting sites are advertising that they support and that they have all these great features that I have to look up because it feels like I am trying to read a separate language. I like what I learned about the different site builders and found them supper interesting. I really enjoyed learning about the different site builders but I didn’t really like learning about the hosting because I didn’t understand what I was needing to look for. I don’t know what I will need in a hosting service and I couldn’t compare them fairly because each hosting service was advertising different things. Even when they had the same things on their lists they were under a different name and sometimes even used different measurements. So long story short researching the hosting services frustrated and annoyed me while researching the ...

Week 3

I learned a lot this week that I never knew. I have heard a lot of the terms but had never learned what each of them meant before. My favorite things that I learned about this week and what I believe I want to try are the Affiliate marketing and Dropshipping. I found these two options super interesting especially since you do not need huge start-up funds for either. I was curious about which ones would be the most helpful for me and this is what I found out. Affiliate marketing: Pros: Low startup costs No need to own inventory No need to worry about shipping or customer service Cons: You don't make any money unless you make a sale It can be difficult to find high-quality affiliate programs You're competing with other affiliates who are promoting the same products Dropshipping: Pros: Low startup costs No need to own inventory No need to worry about shipping or customer service You can make money even if you don't make a sale (through upsells and cross-sells) Cons: You'r...

Week 2

I have found this whole thing super interesting so far. I really enjoyed reading about this week's topics which are business model, idea generation, demand, and competition. I kind of had an idea of what these topics were before I dug into them and read about them and how we can actually start to use these. I especially found it interesting to use Google ads. I have never used it before and I can't understand a lot of the info that it is giving me but what I can understand is super interesting and useful. I really liked how it tells you what keywords are highly competitive and what keywords are rarely used. And if I understood the clicks right then it also tells me what is clicked on the most so that I would be able to know what people want and what they are looking for. I am curious if there is a way to do a search that finds those niches so you don’t have to guess keywords.
